Today is Pentecost Sunday

31st May 2020

Pentecost Sunday is 50 days after Jesus rose from the dead and 10 days after he went back up to heaven on Ascension Thursday. The disciples were all praying together in a room. Suddenly, something amazing happened! First, a strong wind could be heard blowing through the room. Next, flames of fire appeared over every persons head. Then the Holy Spirit went through them all and they began to pray in different languages. This was the gift from God that Jesus had promised his followers when He left them on Ascension Thursday to return to His father in heaven. The disciples left the room and went out into the world to preach the good news as Jesus had taught them. They were able to travel far and wide to spread Jesus' message because they had the gift of tongues and could speak many languages. So Pentecost Sunday is the day the Holy Spirit came down on Jesus' followers and gave them the gifts to spread the word of the Lord.
